After four years of rigorous training and practice, I’ve achieved EMDR Europe Accreditation today. This process has been both challenging and rewarding, involving countless hours of dedicated practice to master the EMDR standard protocol. It meant recording sessions and undergoing supportive scrutiny by an EMDR supervisor to ensure adherence to the precise procedures that underpin EMDR therapy.

What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy developed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. It is a structured therapy that encourages the client to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation, typically eye movements. This is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.

Why Should You Choose an Accredited EMDR Practitioner?
The importance of working with an accredited EMDR practitioner cannot be overstated. Accreditation signifies that a therapist has not only completed the necessary training but has also demonstrated competence in the therapy’s application, as outlined by the EMDR Association UK. This ensures that clients receive the highest standard of care, grounded in the latest research and ethical practices. Accredited practitioners are equipped with the nuanced understanding and skills required to navigate the complexities of trauma-informed care, offering the most effective and safe therapeutic experience.

Why Does Accreditation Matter in EMDR Therapy?
Choosing to work with an accredited practitioner matters for those seeking EMDR therapy. It guarantees that the therapist has a profound understanding of the therapy and adheres to the ethical and professional standards set by governing bodies like the EMDR UK Association and EMDR Europe. This not only ensures the quality and safety of the therapy provided but also supports the broader mission of advancing the understanding and practice of EMDR therapy to alleviate suffering and promote healing.

The EMDR UK Association’s website is a valuable resource for finding accredited practitioners and will soon be updated also with my information. If you’re in search of a practitioner, I suggest using the “Find a Therapist” directory on the EMDR Association website.
